    Mr. Edward Nixon was born June 3, 1815, in Washington county, Ohio, and died at his home in this city, Monday, April 30, 1900, aged 84 years, 10 months and 27 days.

    Edward was the son of William and Elizabeth Nixon and in early life was apprenticed to James M. Davis, a tailor, whom he served for five years, which avocation he pursued at various places in Virginia, till the fall of 1851. On April 2, 1840, he was united in marriage to Mary A. Phelps, of Lawrence county, O.

    To this union were born six childrend, Edward, a son residing at Walla Walla, Washington, Mary Virginia Cozier, wife of Hugh Cozier, of Canaan, Thomas Clarence who died in infancy, Samuel Edwin, a doctor at Burlington, Mrs. Sarah Ruddy and William Alexander, of Geneseo, Idaho.

    Desiring to get out of slave territory, in 1851 he removed with his family to Jackson county, Ia., where his wife died in September, 1863.

    On June 18, 1865, he and Hepsie Phelps were married at Danville, Ia. She was a sister of his first wife and survives him. In January 1867, they removed to a farm in Canaan township this (Henry) county, where they resided when they removed to this city in 1888.

    Deceased was a faithful member and active worker in the Methodist church. He died the death of a christian. During the greater poriton of his life, Mr. Nixon was a great sufferer from bodily ills and constant pains. His brave and patient life, which manifested the power of trust in the Savior's love, is worthy of emulation and teaches a lesson to all who knew him.
