    STEPHEN MARTIN
    Stephen Martin, 82, of Pomeroy died at 9:30 o'clock Sunday morning at Good Samaritian hospital, following a stroke he suffered Jan. 16, while visiting at the home of his son, William Martin, 1086 Greenwood Avenue.
    Mr. Martin was one of the oldest printers in Ohio, working on Meigs county newspapers for over 52 years before retiring in 1942. He also served as a Justice of the Peace for a number of years.
    Surviving the deceased are five sons, Ernest of South Bend, Indiana; William of Zanesville; Herman and Joseph of Pomeroy, and Leo of Chesapeake; two daughters, Mrs. Mildred Tubbs and Mrs. Anna Mae Greenlee of Pomeroy, 16 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. His wife and two daughters and one son preceded him in death.
    The body has been removed to the Ewing Funeral Home in Pomeroy. Burial will be in Beach Grove Cemetery there.

    VETERAN MEIGS COUNTY NEWSPAPER MAN CLAIMED BY DEATH

    Stephen Martin, 82, veteran newspaperman in Meigs County for a period of 52 years, died early Sunday in the Good Samaritian Hospital in Zanesville, following a stroke suffered while on a visit to his son's home in that city.
    During the 52 year period in which he was engaged in the newspaper business in this county, he was associated with The Leader, The Democrat, Dailty Tribune, Tribune-Telegraph, Daily News, and Herald Tribune.
    The deceased was preceded in death by his wife, Cora Mae Martin, daughters, Veda Sinclair, and Hazel Martin and a son, George.
    Surviving the deseased are the following children, Everett Martin, of South Bend, Ind.; William Martin, Zanesville; Mildred Tubbs, Pomeroy; Herman Martin, Pomeroy; Anna Mae Greenlee, Pomeroy; Joseph Martin, Pomeroy; and Leo Gilbert Martin of Chesapeake.
    Also surviving are three brothers, Henry Martin of Hemlock Grove; Thurman of Syacuse and Arthur Martin, Athens. There are also 18 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren.
    Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. from the Ewing Funeral Chapel. Burial will be made in the Beech Grove Cemetery under the direction of the Ewing Funeral Home.

    Agreeable to the announcement in last week's Democrat, Mr. Stephen Martin, foreman in this office and Miss Cora Young of Echo were married at the residence of Mayor Jenkinson in the 4th Ward Sunday afternoon. The ceremony was performed by the Mayor, in the presence of a half dozen young friends of the bride and groom and his "Honor" took occasion to compliment the young couple upon their good looks, saying that they were the best looking couple he had ever had the pleasure of marrying.

    Mr. Martin and his young bride start in life with the well wishes of a large circle of friends, and the Demorcrat joins in wishing that they may live long and happily together.

    OBITUARY

    Cora Mae Young was born at Pomeroy, Ohio July 2, 1881 and passed away at Gallipolis, Ohio Nov. 29, 1921 at the age of 40 years, 4 months and 27 days.

    Early in life, she united with the M.E. Church at Flatwoods and was baptized under the pastorate of Rev. Woodward and had lived faithful devoted Christian life ever since. After coming to Pomeroy, she transferred her membership to Simpson M.E. Church.

    She bore suffering with patience and never complained.

    On July 16, 1899, she was united in marriage to Stephen Martin at Pomeroy, Ohio and besides herhusband, she is survived by eight children as follows:
    Ernest, Veda, William, Mildren, Herman, Anna Mae, Joseph and Leo Gilbert. Two children, having prededed her in death. She also leaves a father, mother, one sister and two brothers and a host of relatives and friends.

    She was a faithful wife and a loving mother who always had her heart for her for her home and the betterment of her children who will sadly miss the tender care of a mother to guide them.

    She was a member of the Bible Class at the Simpson M.E. Church also a member fo the Ladies of the Maccabees.

    DEATHS - MARTIN

    Mrs. George Martin, of Enterprise the estimable mother of foreman Stephen Martin of the Democrat, died Tuesday afternoon from a paralytic stroke at the age of 43 years.

    She leaves a husband, eight children, two brothers and two sisters to mourn their loss. The funeral services will be held at the Rocksprings M.E. Church Thursday afternoon at 2:00 and the remains will be laid to rest in the Rocksprings Cemetery.

    AGED POMEROYAN ANSWERS SUMMONS

    Joseph L Young, 85-year-old Pomeroy man, died Sunday night of complications at the home of his son Victor in the First Ward.

    Besides his widow, he is survived by two sons, John Young and Victor Young, both of Pomeroy and one daughter, Mrs. Faye Mount, of East Liverpool. Also surviving are 24 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

    The funeral services will be conducted at the Enterprise U.B. Church Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 with interment in Beech Grove Cemetery.

    SERVICES BEING HELD TODAY FOR MRS. YOUNG, 91

    Funeral services were to be held this afternoon for Mrs. Mary Mayers Young, aged 91, lifetime resident of Meigs county, who died at the home of a son, Victor, Saturday morning after a three year illness.

    Mrs. Young's husband died nine years ago, and four children also preceded her in death. She was born in Meigs county and had been a member of the Enterprise E.U.B. church, where servies were to be held this aftrernoon at 2:00 at 304 E. Main, Victor Young's home.

    Surviving are, in addition to Victor Young, another son, John, Pomeroy; a daughter, Mrs. Faye Mound, East Liverpool; 26 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren and three great, great grandchildren and a brother, Will Mayers, Colorado and a sister, Lydia Clark, Mason, WV.

    The Rev. Carl E. Groff will officiate at the services. Trevey-Finsterwald Funeral home was in charge.

    Death of an old pioneer, Henry Martin, a much respected resident of this place, departed this life Monday, March 11th age 67 years. He was a native of Ireland and came to this country when but a small boy, at which time he settled at this place and learned the trade of Carpentery, at which trade he worked during life. He leaves a wife, six children and a host of friends to mourn his departure.

    Mary Martin died at her home near Rockspring last Wednesday, aged 73years, six months and 11 days. She was buried the following Friday inthe Rocksprings Cemtery, Rev. Holcomb conducting the funeral ceremonies.
    Her maiden name was Doyle and she was born in Ireland and came to this country when nine years of age, [1831 mk] the same time that a large colony came from that place and settled in the neighborhood of Rocksprings and Flatwoods.
    She was married to Henry Martin in 1843, who died in 1889. She was the mother of nine children, six of whom are still living: Joseph,George, William and Arthur, and Mrs. F.L. Church of this city and Mrs.Pete Adams of Gallipolis.
    Mrs. Martin was never a member of any church, but was one of the greatest bible students in the county, having read that book through thirty times and committed hundreds of whole chapters to memory.
    Her life was devoted to deeds of christianity rather than those of religion and all who knew her, loved her.

    In Memory of Nancy Linscott

    Nancy FLYNN was born Aug. 17, 1820 and passed away peacefully from this life, March 3, 1898, aged 77 years, 6 months and 14 days. She was united in marriage to Balser Linscott about 1840, to this union were born 12 children, nine of whom still survive her. Her husband having gone before her some years ago.
    She ws converted at the Christian Church at Portland, Ohio at the early age of 18 and since that time has lived a consistant christian life. She was a noble wife and a kind mohter, respected and liked by all who knew here. She said a short time before her death that she was ready and prepared to go.
    The funeral services were held at the Oldtown church conducted by Rev. Bush after which the remains were laid to rest in the cemetery at that place.
