    "The declaration of JOSEPH MARTIN & JOHN MARTIN of their declaration to become citizens of the United States, that they are natives of Ireland, that they sailed from Ireland, towit:

    JOHN in April 1837 & arrived at Cleveland, Ohio in the same year, and reached Meigs County same year; whereinto has since resided.

    JOSEPH sailed from Ireland in after year 1838 and reached New York in June following & has resided in Meigs County, Ohio for two years last past.

    They declare it is bona fide their intentions to become citizens of the United states, and to renounced the allegiance and fidelity to every foreing prince, po?, stak? and Sovereingly? whatever?, and espcially to Victoria Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britian & Ireland of whom they are now subject.


    JOSEPH MARTIN JOHN MARTIN

    On May 1, 1835 John Martin bought land from John Brown and wife. John also helped organize the First Episcopal Church in Pomeroy, Ohio.

    John Martin died at age 66 on August 31, 1840 in Pomeroy, Ohio. He is buried in Beech Grove Cemetery in Pomeroy Ohio on the right side of the road as you enter the cemetery. It is the old section and his grave has a marker about 7 feet tall.

    John married Elizabeth Pierce Ireland. Elizabeth was born ABT. 1788, Ireland; died 12 Jun 1875, Pomeroy, Meigs County Ohio; was buried Beech Grove Cemetery, Pomeroy OH. [Group Sheet]

    Notes:

    Elizabeth Martin died on June 12, 1875 at the age of 87 years old, she isburied next to her husband John at Beech Grove Cemetery in Pomeroy, Ohio.

    their daughter and eloped with her and left for Ireland.

    King George II ruled England 1727-1760, and married Caroline of
    Brandenburg-Ansbach. He had a sister Amelia, for whom Amelia Island in
    Flordia was named in 1736.
