    Notes:

    One tradition states that he was from Wales. He and his wife became members of the first church organized in Simsbury. He was a farmer. He is said to have died at the home of his son in Simsbury, CT.

    Possibly from Wales and was a soldier under Cromwell, the followers of whom were known as "Roundheads" Genealogy of the Pettibone Family complied by J. Fayette Pettibone. John was the first Pettibone to come to America. Freemen -1658.

    It is said that in his old age he lived with one of his sons. The house where he died is on the main street of the Village of Weatogue, in Simsbury. Simsbury is part of the old Windsor Colony. John was a Cornwellian soldier from Windsor, Connecticut in 1658

    In 1667, John lived in that part of the Farmington Valley which in 1670 became Simsbury. He was a freeman there in 1669.

    An article in the NEHGS Register, Vol 225, page 225 states that he was ... of French origin, and emigrant from England to America, a landowner at Windsor Conn, in 1658 and later a settler at Simsbury Conn where he died

    John was a member of the first church organized in Simsbury, as were also his wife and several of his children. He was a farmer.

    John married Sarah Eggleston Between 12 and 16 Feb 1664, WindsorSimsbury, Hartford, Conneticut.     Notes:

    Sarah was a daughter of Begot Eggleston, who was first a settler in Dorchester, Mass and removed thence to Windsor. She died just one week before the death of her husband.

    John is said to have been one of the earliest immigrants during the Cromwell Wars. He is also said to have been a Cromwell Soldier ( whom were known as Roundheads.

    John Pettibone possibly a widower since there is no record of a wife with him. arrived Simsbury CT prior to 1630. John is listed as a founder and original surveyor of Simsbury

    The name Wm. Petybon is listed in agincourt battle in 1415 between England and France.

    The name Pettibone is a corruption of Peter-bon, Good Peter.
