    From Findagrave.com website:

Moses Kouns was born in 1807 and died Christmas Eve in the year 1884. His wife Lucretia C. was born in 1812 and died November 18, 1856 at the age of 44. Moses served his country during the War Between The States, signing up at the age of 54. One would assume this man to be a most patriotic man, one who believed strongly in the preservation of The Union. Wars generally are fought by young men, not men in the later years of their lives. Still, perhaps after the death of his beloved Lucretia he felt the pull to do so, an important calling. He signed on in the early years of the war, 1961 (5 years after his wife's passing). Pension papers tell us he had false teeth that he kept in a glass of water at night. His teeth were in the nightly resting place, when the Army Hospital Ship Moses was serving on in the middle of the Great Mississippi was hit by enemy fire. Moses swam safely to shore while his ship and his teeth sank to the bottom of The Muddy Mississippi. Now, the Army's never been noted for delicious food, and poor Moses did his best to chew without teeth, but the difficulty of that compounded by his catching pneumonia from his emergency swim, took a toll on his health which deteriorated. Despite the rigors of hard life in our country's early history and his War Time escapades, he lived to the age of 77 and is shown holding his granddaughter, Lena.

Some old email in my files: August 3, 2000:
Hello Sharon Kouns... I am a person with "Kouns roots"....digging away. I was given your name by somebody who thought you might be able to lead me in the right direction....they said you were a "Kouns Expert"... I sure do hope so. Family records indicate that my great-great grandfather, Moses Kouns, was born "on the Kanawha River, five miles above Point Pleasant, Virginia (now West Virginia) in 1807" These same family records have his parents listed as "John" and "Hannah".... That's all, no last name for Hannah and no birth/death dates for them, or where they came from.
Have you ever heard of Kouns folks in the Mason County, WV area? If so, was there a Moses among them? Moses married Lucretia Clarkson Timmons daughter of Stephen A. Timmons and Milla (Millie) Brown...they moved and lived in the Ross County, Ohio area and are buried there.
I realize this genealogy can get pretty complicated at times...I don't mean to overwhelm you...or ask the impossible, just thought you may have run across a Kouns you can't account for??? or??? Thank you much for your time.... Freddie Randolph fredstev@pld.com
