    Notes:

Son of David Todd Brubaker and Arzelia Salome Clark

Referred to by the nickname "Buck I." It is my understanding that William was living in Washington at the time of his death. His body was brought back here to be buried with his family. Williams grave site is located in Hazelwood Cemetery Grinnell Iowa. He rests with his brother Louis also located in Hazelwood.

    1. There was a Brubaker that lived near my family in Carlton, WA in the 30's and 40's when my dad was kid. My dad said he was single and always lived alone.
    2. I'm sure this is the same guy my dad knew as a kid. I remember my dad saying he liked a little wine now and then and that he had a big telescope that my dad and his brother would take out on the porch when they were kids and watch mule deer herds on the other side of the valley during the fall hunting season. My Dad's father knew him very well. Do you know what he did for a living? The house he lived in was torn down about 20 years ago, and we still hunt in the same area where he lived. My Dad always talks about him when we drive by the place where he lived. My Dad did say they always called him Bill.

    From Ed McConnell
The road to Bill's old place is about 1/2 way between Carlton and Twisp on the highway, and is near a big concrete water weir, on the face of the weir is my name faded out slightly. Bill and my grandfather were good friends, and built the road together. Take the dirt road near that weir up the hill to the two gates, stop your car at the gates and walk on through the gate that is on the right. Just beyond that gate about 75 yards look to your left, and you will see where someone has put up a couple of buildings. The house Bill had sat at that location looking across the valley. It was a small wood frame house with a porch on it and was standing until about 20 years ago when a forest fire went through the area. I'm not sure if the Forest Service burned the house down or if the Forest Fire burned it down. WATCH For RATTLE SNAKES. You can walk right over a snake in that country and not know it. They don't always rattle.

After a few more contacts with Ed McConnell he gave me a Stanley and Arthur Darwood of Twisp Washington to contact. Stanley and Arthur would go out to visit when there father would go to see Bill

Arthur told me that Bill was about 5 foot 11 inches weight of about 180 pounds if his memory serves him correct. Bill was a Dry Land Farmer (no irrigation) he raised Oats, Rye and Wheat. He had a few horses, and cattle which he would sell the cream to make ends meet. His house was small it was a two story house, Pantry, Living area, and Kitchen down stairs and a bed room up stairs. He had a old milk house and a cellar out back where he would keep his potatos. He really enjoyed sitting on the front porch in his home made chair just watching the hills and the sunsets. All that he had around his land was timbers and hills. Their were a lot of rattle snakes in his area, so when the kids would come he watched to see that they could get in and out with no problem. He is remembered as being a good man, a gentle man, always willing to help his neighbors, who helped him in return.
