The WICHITA BEACON Saturday evening, November 8, 1924
Headline: MAN FOUND DEAD IN HOTEL ROOM
Article reads:AGED GUEST VICTIM OF HEART ATTACK; LEFT NAME ON NOTE.

Registered as W. Wagner of Colorado Springs but identified by a piece of paper found among his possessions as D. M. Stewart, an aged man was found dead at one o'clock this afternoon in his room at the Hotel Grant, 124 1/2 West Douglas. He had been dead for several hours. Death is believed to have been caused by heart trouble superinduced by rheumatism, fro which he evidently had been suffering from for years. His hands and feet were crippled from the disease.

When the man registered at the hotel he gave his name as Wagner. The piece of identifying paper reads: "My name is D. M. Stewart. In case of accident notify Mrs. May Cramer, Lenora, Kansas."

The City Undertaking Company immediately sent a telegram to the designated address, but no reply, has been received. When the man arrived at the hotel he said he hoped to complete a business transaction here, and confided to the proprietress that he had only one dollar to his name. An attendant who entered Wagner's or Stewart's bedroom early this morning saw him lying in bed but thought nothing of it. It was not until several hours afterward that it was learned he had died during the night. In the man's pockets were several patent medicine advertisements to cure rheumatism. He was apparently 65 to 70 years old.

Article in the Osborne County Farmer July 15, 1937
Lake Named for Former Osborne Man
Last week's Scott City news Chronicle carried a picture of the large 100 acre lake in the state park near Scott City, which is named Lade McBride in honor of Grover McBride, who was to a large degree responsible for the location of the park. He was engaged in the drug business in Scott City for many years, during which time he manifested great interest in the upbuilding of the town and county in educational affairs. He passed away in October, 1928, and his family erected a monument to his memory, which stand at Point Lookout on the bluff at the east side of the lake.
Grover McBride was well known in Osborne, having spent his early youth in this community, and attended high school in Osborne. He was adopted son of Mr. and Mrs. Tom McBride, who for many years had charge of the county poor farm, and who are now living in California. Mrs. McBride is a sister of the late R. R. and J. J. Hays.
The lake lies in a beautiful natural park, where for years fishermen, hunters and picnickers had come for hundreds of miles to enjoy the advantages of the spot called the "Rocky Mountains of Scott City" In 1927, after the law providing for state park was enacted, Grover McBride was named by the commission, with two other Scott City men to take up the matter of the establishing of the park. was adopted by "Tom McBride"

Article on William W. Diamond, -- The gentleman who adopted Benjamin.
William W. Dimond, one of the settlers of Osborne county, a man who was known and loved by man, woman and children passed away peacefully in the office of Dr. Miller at Osborne, Monday, March 27, 191
Mr. Dimond had been in his usual health except for a slight sickness on Saturday night, and on Monday he arose in usual spirits and went to Osborne. He wanted to catch the train to be present at the sale of the Lukens land.
William Waltace Dimond was born Sep. 22, 1839, at Pine Grove, Pennsylvania, and grew to manhood in that locality. When the war broke out he enlisted in Co., G. 83d Penn. Vol. Int., in August 1861, being selected as orderly sergeant of his company. In the fierce engagement at Malvern Hill on July 1, 1862, he was wounded in the left arm by a Minie ball, which incapacitated him for active service thereafter. The ball was a full ounce ball of the kind used by the confederates, and after it was removed from his arm Mr. Dimond had it made into a watch charm, which he wore until the day of his death. Being unable to return to active duty he served as a recruiting officer until the winter of 1863, when he was given an honorable discharge from the service. He was a gallant soldier, and previous to his wound at Malvern Hill had participated in numerous battles.
Mr. Dimond was united in marriage to Miss Susan Bixby, January 3, 1866, at Hartfield New York. In the summer of 1871 he came to Kansas in search of a homestead in this country, then known as "The Great American Dream"
Mr. Dimond was actively interested in every movement for the social material and moral welfare of the community, and in return for hid devotion to duty and well known integrity he was repeatedly honored by his fellowman by being placed in positions of trust. He joined the Masonic fraternity when a young man of 25, and was always an earnest and sincere advocate of Masonry, religiously observing its rigid requirements and standing loyally by its sacred tenets. He was for some time a member of the Cawker City, but when Downs became an important point he helped to organize a lodge here and was successively elected to the different chairs. He was a loyal and faithful member of the Grand Army of the public and served in every capacity from the lowest to the highest positions. He was a man of deep religious convictions and in early life he united with the Presbyterian church. After his marriage, however he, with his wife, joined the Methodist church, of which denomination he remained a faithful and devoted member until the final summons came to call him up higher.
No children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Dimond, but in 1896, the adopted Benjamin Stuart an orphan boy, whom they have raised and loved as their own.
